Modern Neutrals

My client purchased a beautiful condo–the finishes were gorgeous–the elevator opened to his entryway of  hand chiseled Travertine and moved on to Michelangelo floors, a view of the water and so much more.  What a treat to work in such a space.  My client wanted to play with a palette of neutrals–brown, beige, tan, black and so forth.  Masculine, clean and comfortable for entertaining or relaxing.

This was especially fun because with the exception of a few accessories, we started from scratch.  Here we have the entry with a clean lined cherry console, a nice thick rug and a mix of textures and neutrals set the stage for the rest of the home.

Dining Room

The entry opens to the kitchen and dining room where we continued our use of clean lines, neutrals and a mix of textures for interest.

Dining Room & Living Room

The kitchen, dining room and living room are connected and needed to flow together.  A Chilewich runner adds some modern texture.  Planters with jade plants bring some nature into the room.

Living Room

Travertine top tables and comfortable seating.

A pair of tall floor mirrors reflect the view.  My client found this wonderful art in a Seattle restaurant and bought it on the spot.

Office

The home office has a view (makes work so much nicer!)  A Stendig wall calendar lets you know the date at a glance.  We chose a classic rug in beautiful browns and other neutrals.  The chairs are comfortable and light enough to carry to the living room for extra seating.

Home Theater

The home theater room is off the kitchen.  My client had a media wall installed with beverage coolers and a projection screen.  We added a deep, comfortable sofa and comfortable leather chairs with low backs that can be easily turned around if needed.  The reclaimed wood coffee table adds texture as do the shag rug and ash wall art.

Home Theater

The screen door opens onto a deck.  He had blackout shades installed for summer time movie viewing.

Master Bedroom

Light furniture, a big leather chair and metal wall art play off the beautiful fireplace in the master bedroom.

Redecorating the Living Room & Dining Room

My client was ready for a change.  Her living room was painted a soft green and had a pair of pretty cream sofas along with many antiques and carpets she had collected over time.  To the right of the built in bookcases she had her contractor remove part of the wall that separated the two rooms.  Now we had this beautiful new space to work with.  Here is what we did.

View from the Dining Room.

We used the fireplace stone as inspiration for color.  We chose a  stone color for the walls and a deeper tone for the back of the bookcases.  The floors were refinished and a slightly darker stain applied.

We chose earth tones and warm orange accents for both rooms.  My client already had a wonderful collection of rugs and textiles which work perfectly with the new furnishings.

Flowering branches are such a nice way to add color in winter.   I love that they started out as branches with a few buds and now they have pretty yellow flowers and tiny green leaves.

Working on the Living Room

My clients were ready to do more entertaining.  Holidays, baby showers, etc.  Time to take on the Living Room and add to the Dining Room.  Like many people, they are decorating in stages.  We came up with an overall plan which allows them to add things as they are ready.

Beautiful carpet, sofa and travertine top coffee table

We started with a chocolate velvet sofa with nailhead details, a wool and silk patterned carpet and a travertine topped parson’s table.

Living Room and Dining Room--nail head detail on chairs

Then came the sideboard in the Dining Room and these pretty occasional chairs with nail head detailing. The rooms are flowing together beautifully!   A nice color palette and blend of wood, wool, silk, velvet, travertine and metal adds interest to the room as does the mix of straight lines and curves.   Next on the agenda are curtains, art, side tables and a bench.
